A refundable deposit should have clear deduction and return conditions. Keep payment records and avoid changing to an unverified payment recipient at the last minute.

Ask who meets you or provides access, especially for late flights or road delays. Save the host’s support contact before travelling. Good instructions should cover the building entrance, parking, keys, Wi-Fi, essential appliances, house rules, and the process for reporting a problem.
